Baharat, Arabic for “spice ” & also known as Lebanese 7-spice, is an all-purpose aromatic sweet & smoky spice blend widely used in Middle Eastern cooking. Just a pinch of our blend will bring a little zest to any dish especially, lentil, pilaf & rice dishes. It can be used as a seasoning for meat, kofta, seafood & vegetables, as a dry rub or marinade. Use it in everything from burgers to lamb chops. It compliments lamb so well that cutlets & even roasts are improved greatly when the meat is dusted with Baharat & a little salt to taste. Allow to dry-marinate in the fridge for an hour before cooking.
For recipes using ground beef, mix about 1 tsp for every pound of ground beef.
Use it as a marinade for chicken & lamb. Add 1/2 cup of olive oil, 2 tsp of Baharat, 1 tbsp of lemon juice, & a pinch of salt to a bowl with chicken or lamb & marinate for 24 hours. Also goes well with meaty Fish such as Monkfish.
